NAPA Release 2024.2
The second NAPA Release of 2024 is out now!
NAPA Release 2024.2 has been published! The new functionality, updates and changes in the software have been included in the NAPA Release Notes 2024.2 document, available in NAPAnet, with the installation media.
The new release highlights include:
- Enhanced 3D ship model design
- Simplified painting area tool with a renewed user interface
- Easier and smarter 3D structural design
- User-driven improvements in database management
Enhanced 3D Ship Model Design
NAPA Designer 2024.2 includes several amendments for the hull form, 3D ship model and compartment modeling purposes. The existing modeling tools have been enhanced, new ones added, and access to the relevant data has been improved.
The hull form transformation now supports the piece-wise linear transformation method, together with the previously published linear and non-linear transformation methods, on top of the interactive 3D graphics.

It is now possible to visualize CFD results on top of the hull form in NAPA Designer, by utilizing the neutral CGNS (CFD General Notation System) file format to import the CFD results. The functionality is still in development and is currently available as an alpha version.
Additional check tools for 3D compartment arrangements have been added. The Compartment Overlap tool will help identify possible problems in the compartment model, to avoid any calculation errors in the later stages. Additionally, the clearance-to-hull visualization helps to locate the tanks within the required clearance from the ship’s hull.

Renewed Painting Area Tool
Now you can simplify paint area calculations from the early design stages with NAPA Designer. The new painting area tool, leveraging NAPA’s integrated 3D Ship Model—encompassing compartments, structures, and building blocks—is now available in NAPA Designer. With an improved user interface, this tool allows you to estimate accurate paint areas even faster.

3D Structural Design
This release introduces a range of new features and improvements based on user feedback. The new Interactive parametric curve tool empowers users to design complex structural member shapes more easily and flexibly while ensuring the re-usability of 3D model data for future projects.

Additionally, NAPA Viewer offers a solution for efficient design review and collaboration directly through 3D models. The newly introduced 3D-based revision management and comparison feature enables shipyards to reduce their reliance on traditional 2D drawings, paving the way toward a more efficient, drawing-less workflow.

Improved Database Management
NAPA’s Server Database (ServerDB), essential for smoother multi-user and distributed design workflows, is now simpler and more robust. With the introduction of a new internal caching system, the need for separate ServerDB installations on local PCs can be eliminated.
Additionally, the new configuration options bring significant enhancements, including access control for individual project databases, encrypted synchronization, fault tolerance with replica sets, and improved network performance through data compression.
