Submarine Design

Specialized application for submarine stability and design

Comprehensive design tool for submarines

Submarine design differs quite a lot when compared to the traditional ship design. The new application of NAPA for submarines takes into account the special aspects of submarines, by providing easy-to-use tools for the hull shape, compartmentation and structures design as well as stability and weight calculation. The application works directly on NAPA Designer.

Benefits

Time Savings

  • Reduced design lead time
  • More design iterations within a shorter time

Better Designs

  • Improved design quality with consistent design data
  • Whole design integrated into one single 3D product model accessible by all design disciplines
  • Integrated 3D product model for efficient cross-discipline design

Specialized Output

  • Standard tabular output to create reports easily
  • Specialized drawings and diagrams produced for stability and structural design needs

Hull shape and compartmentation

NAPA Designer provides an easy and intuitive user interface and tools for creating the needed geometry for the calculation. These are supplemented with specific geometry tools for creating typical tank shapes for submarine design.

The model is always parametrical making later modifications of the model easy and fast. The compartments and tanks follow parametrically the shape of the pressure hull and outer shell. The transformation tools makes possible to study several different design variations, easier and quicker.

Submarine stability

Stability

Calculating stability for a submarine requires a special application since the methods are different when compared to the stability calculation of a ship. For example, the stability calculation requires to solve the physical equilibrium equations between the buoyancy and displacement, and center of gravity and center of buoyancy, in order to keep the submarine stable in a submerged position.

The application follows also the NATO standard for designing the operational loading conditions for submarines. The detailed specification of the capabilities can be found at the end of the page.

Hull structures design

NAPA Steel revolutionizes the initial and basic design for structures by taking the design work from traditional 2D drawings to 3D modelling. The submarine design application contains specific tools for submarine structure design, supplementing the standard structural modeling tools of NAPA Designer.

Application

NAPA Submarine Design application provides an easy-to-use user interface for submarine specific design problems, such as loading condition design and balancing of the submarine. The application works on NAPA Designer, directly integrated into the active 3D model, and used simultaneously with the standard geometry toolset and 3D visualization of NAPA Designer.

It also provides special tools for outputting the needed information to be further utilized in reports.
